Introduction to Control Engineering
Learning objectives and acquired competences:
The objective of this module is to provide a fundamental understanding of the basic principles and concepts of control engineering. The focus is on linear single-input single-output (SISO) systems. Students will be able to
- mathematically analyze dynamical processes in both the time and frequency domains and
- design feedback controllers for example systems from mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering.
Contents:
- Tasks and objectives of control engineering
- Analysis of continuous-time LTI systems (stability, controllability, observability)
- Analysis and controller design in the frequency domain (PID controllers, transfer functions, internal stability, frequency-response methods)
- Design of state feedback controllers and state observers through eigenvalue assignment
